Research & development of two (2) herbal medicinal products in sachet form, based on EMA monographs.

Project: ΤΑCL3-0561678

Plants have been used for therapeutic purposes for many years. Indeed, many conventional medicines are derived from plant sources. The development of herbal medicinal products is of particular interest, as the number of patients seeking treatment with plant-based products is growing exponentially. According to a study by Fortune Business Insights, the global herbal medicine market was valued at USD 185 billion in 2020 and is projected to reach USD 430 billion by 2028, with an annual growth rate of 11.32%.

Recognising global trends, GALENICA S.A. has developed two (2) new herbal medicinal products in sachet form, based on EMA monographs, targeting the market for plant-based treatments for gastrointestinal disorders or venous insufficiency.

The investment initiatives at the plant in Glyfa, Chalkida, cover:

  • The expansion and modernisation of both production facilities and supporting infrastructure (warehouses, utility networks, etc.), aiming to improve cost efficiency and quality. These improvements are essential in view of the anticipated significant increase in product sales, driven by both exports and the strengthening of the company’s position in Greece.
    More specifically, the modernisation includes:
    • Upgrading buildings & infrastructure.
    • Purchasing & upgrading electromechanical equipment & software.
  • The modernisation and expansion of the chemical & microbiological laboratories. Specifically, upgrading buildings and infrastructure and purchasing new equipment aim to enable faster and more accurate testing for quality assurance and research and development activities.
